Bharatanatyam Arangetram of Dhanya Balakrishna Menon

Dhanya Balakrishna Menon, senior SIFAS student of Guru Roopika Julian will be presenting her Bharatanatyam arangetram this Saturday, 27th July at University Cultural Centre (NUS).

Here she reminisces with us about preparing for her debut full-length solo show & takes us through what she has learnt, found challenging & cherished of the experience.

"With months of immense involvement in dance, I have finally reached the final stage of preparation prior to the big day. The preparation is coming to a close and I am confident of doing justice to the dedicated training imparted by my teacher, Guru Roopika Julian. I am grateful for the constant support extended to me by my teachers, family and friends. I will do my best to do justice to their faith in me.

Until a few months ago, I was not aware that I had it in me to take on such a task. The effort put in by my teacher Guru Roopika Julian was an eye-opener on how teachers can create a good transformation in a student.

Though it has been strenuous juggling between the final year dance exam as well as preparing for my arangetram, I have enjoyed it. As soon as the exam got over, I had to prepare a whole new set of challenging items for my arangetram. But with motivation from peers and teachers, preparing for both was made easier than I expected. The past few weeks have been physically exhausting but emotionally gratifying.

For almost 2 to 3 months, SIFAS has become part of my life. I was able to meet new people and develop an appreciation for the disciplined life of a Bharatanatyam dancer."

We wish you all the best for your performance Dhanya & congratulate Guru Roopika Julian and Mr. & Mrs. Menon on this proud milestone!
